Final theses are a significant part of the research, development and innovation activities (RDI) of the Universities of Applied Sciences. Theses are integrated with the multidimensional field of RDI activities, the parties of which are the students and teaching staff of the University of Applied Sciences, and the representative of working life.
The instructions cover the writing process of the entire thesis, starting from the choice of its subject and the importance of studies supporting the thesis and concluding with the publication of the finished thesis and the Maturity Test. Moreover, SeAMK’s Instructions for Written Work are observed in the reporting of the thesis; they include instructions about the writing and layout of the thesis. It is advisable to become familiar with the instructions on accessibility as early as the beginning of the thesis process.
Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences has six educational fields and more than 20 Degree Programmes. Some 800 theses are written every year. Because of the multidisciplinary character of the University of Applied Sciences, the subjects of the theses and their ways of implementation vary between the Faculties. The aim of the present Instructions, as general instructions for all the Faculties, is to harmonise the practices of thesis writing, yet allowing for the distinctiveness of the Faculties and creativity. At each Faculty, the general instructions are complemented as needed. Students are informed of these Faculty-specific practices on courses related to thesis writing.
The thesis instructions and templates can be found on the Intranet of SeAMK. The instructions are constantly updated so that they will be up-to-date for students writing their theses. Feedback and suggestions for the improvement of the instructions can be sent to opinnaytetyo-ohje.seamk@seamk.fi.
