Instructions for Bachelor's Thesis

Publication

As a rule, theses are published at the Theseus open repository of the Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences.

When the supervising teacher has given their permission, the student saves their thesis in Theseus. The thesis is only saved in Theseus once if it has been completed as a joint thesis of SeAMK degree programmes. The SeAMK student also saves the thesis in Theseus if it has been completed together with a student from another university of applied sciences or in a double degree. After that, the supervising teacher assesses the thesis on Peppi.

The student shall ensure the accessibility of their thesis and the appendices to it in advance (this concerns appendices in the Appendices section and separate ones, such as a guide, video, or infographics). The templates include instructions on accessibility. The thesis is converted into a PDF/A file and the file is named as firstname_lastname according to the person saving it. If there is more than one author, name the thesis surname_surname_surname.pdf. Appendices external to the thesis are named based on their content. SeAMK's Theseus editors check the recording and publish the thesis within three working days

The options for storing to Theseus are either Open collection, i.e. the thesis in an open network or Restricted collection, i.e. limited use only in IP-addresses specified by your university. All Universities of Applied Sciences in Finland have signed the declaration of open science and he policy component on open access to theses. Students are encouraged to publish open access whenever it is possible. Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences also recommend using the Theseus open collection. Thesis stored in the open collection can be linked in your CV or personal portfolio. See more about the storage options.

There are separate instructions for electronic publication on SeAMK Intra. The student shall ensure in advance the accessibility of their thesis and its appendices (both the appendices in the Appendices section of the thesis and separate appendices such as a guide, video, or infographics). The template includes instructions on accessibility.

The thesis is saved according to the instruction of Theseus. Save both the Finnish and English abstract in the fields of the form and make sure hyphenation has been turned off and that the division into paragraphs is correct. The University of Applied Sciences is obliged to always deliver a copy of the thesis to the party requesting it, even if the thesis has been saved in the restricted-use collection (Act on the Openness of Government Activities621/1999).

It is the student’s responsibility to make sure that the commissioner of the thesis and other possible partners in cooperation get the agreed number of copies of the report.
