Information about library's e-book services and instructions how to use them

General

How can you read e-books?

  • You can read some e-books online in your web browser.
  • You can download most e-books to your computer and read them offline using software like Adobe Digital Editions Reader.

If you would like to read an e-book without internet connection (offline), you must have a personal Adobe ID and an e-book reader installed in your computer.

The most used reader software is Adobe Digital Editions. Computers in university network should have the software ready installed. If you cannot find the software, contact Jelppari and let them know where the software is not installed. You can download the software free to your own computer. NB! You cannot read e-books in Adobe Reader!

How to download an e-book to a computer?

NB! You can read some e-books in your web browser and you don't have to download them to your computer. If this is not possible or you'd like to read an e-book offline, you'll have to download it to the e-book reader. Please follow the instructions below.

For the first time

  1. Create yourself an Adobe ID and install a free Adobe Digital Editions to your computer. Please always use the updated version in your computer.
  2. Open the reader and authorize it with your Adobe ID (= email address which you used when creating your Adobe account).
  3. Search the e-book in SeAMK-Finna or e-book service's own interface.
  4. Most of the services are available on the university network and through remote access. Login with your SeAMK account.
  5. Download the e-book to your computer. NB! Open the e-book in Adobe Digital Editions. Do not use any other software.
  6. The book downloads and opens in the reader. It may take a while.

Next time you can skip phases 1-2 and download e-books straight to the reader.

More detailed instructions how to use different e-book services available in E-books Guide under each service.
