How to use e-resources

Information about library's electronic resources and instructions how to use them.

User rights - permitted and prohibited use

The library acquires e-resources from several publisher and vendors. The majority of e-resources is purchased via FinELib consortium. The FinELib office negotiates the licensing of e-resources on behalf of the consortium members.

The licensing principles of the FinELib consortium are followed in the acquisition of materials. Attention is paid for example to the usage rights of the resources (printing, linking, using references).

NB! Any commercial use is strictly prohibited.

Who may use library's e-resources?

  • the degree students at SeAMK (including exchange students)
  • the staff at SeAMK (teachers, researchers, other employees)

may use e-resources on computers at SeAMK university network, through WLAN and by logging in to remote access from outside SeAMK university network with their own credentials (SeAMK username and password).

  • patrons visiting SeAMK Library (so called walk-in users) on computers in library premises

What is permitted?

  • browsing
  • searching
  • to print and electronically save parts for the purposes of studying, teaching and scientific research
  • to use in non-commercial learning materials by linking to resources on the service provider's website
  • in most cases, authorised users may distribute single copies of parts of the licensed material in print or electronic form to third party colleagues for the purposes of scientific research and communication

What is prohibited?

  • commercial use of e-resources
  • systematic saving, printing and copying of e-resources
  • to distribute an e-resource or parts of it to users outside Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences
  • to distribute e-resources to the web

What is FinELib?

The FinELib consortium centrally acquires electronic materials for its member organisations. The consortium members are Finnish universities, universities of applied sciences, research institutes and public libraries. The consortium’s service unit, the FinELib office, is located at the National Library. The FinELib office negotiates the licensing of e-materials on behalf of the consortium members.

The range of material includes e-journals, e-books, reference books and reference databases.  Each consortium member independently selects which materials it orders.
